Food at the right time in life

In my previous post, I discussed the third Ayurvedic principle related to food, emphasising how food's effects vary by time of day. Remember that the season also profoundly influences our diet. As autumn 🍂 and winter ❄️ bring the dominance of the *vata* dosha, we must embrace warm, well-cooked, and slightly heavier foods to nourish ourselves.

In summer ☀️, when *pitta* reigns, we should seek balance by avoiding excessively hot foods and being mindful of strong spices and pungent items like onions. Conversely, spring 🌸 invites an abundance of spices, as we welcome the *kapha* dosha and lighter meals to counteract its heaviness.

Our stage of life beautifully guides our dietary choices, with *kapha* prevailing in childhood 👶, *pitta* in adulthood 🧑, and *vata* in our later years 👵. As we transition through these phases, it's inspiring to realise that our bodies tell us when to adapt our eating habits for optimal well-being. A diet filled with salads and cold foods may have served us well during vibrant midlife, but as we gracefully age and *vata* takes charge, we must honour the need for a warm, nourishing diet. Join me as we explore the remaining principles in future posts. 🌱
